I am so blessed week after week to serve my parish.
Each week in Matins we read several psalms and although they are always the same they speak so loudly to me. I go from being filled with awe at Gods might and protection to being humbled by his grace and love.
LORD, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me. Many are they who say of me, “There is no help for him in God.” But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the LORD with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill.
A few weeks ago I read Psalm 103 as a parishioner was partaking in confession. I got goose bumps as I read loudly “Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s”.
Oh these words!
I can’t expand on King David’s writings. I can’t speak to God in any more eloquent terms. I am though so grateful for these prayers and songs.
If you haven’t been to a Matins service or haven’t been in a while I encourage you to do your soul a favor and go.
